About this procedure
A colonoscopy is a screening exam where a doctor uses a thin, flexible camera to look at the inside of your colon. It's the gold-standard test for catching colon cancer early.
What to expect
You'll start a clear-liquid diet and bowel-prep solution the day before. The procedure itself takes 30-60 minutes and you'll be sedated, so you won't feel or remember it. Plan to take the day off and have someone drive you home. Most people are back to normal eating that evening.
