About this procedure

A comprehensive eye exam — checks vision, eye health, and screens for glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.

What to expect

Plan for 30-60 minutes. The exam includes refraction (the lens-flipping part), pressure check, and dilation so the doctor can see the retina. Your eyes will be light-sensitive for a few hours after dilation — bring sunglasses. Medical insurance covers this when there's a medical reason; vision plans cover routine.
