About this procedure
A transvaginal ultrasound — uses sound waves and a small wand inserted in the vagina to look at the uterus, ovaries, and pelvic structures.
What to expect
10-20 minutes. The wand is covered with a sterile sleeve and lubricant. May be uncomfortable but isn't painful. Common for pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, fertility evaluation, and early pregnancy. Empty bladder beforehand. Same-day results from the radiologist within a day.
