A screening mammogram — low-dose X-rays of both breasts to look for early signs of breast cancer in women without symptoms.
What to expect
15-30 minutes. The technician compresses each breast between two plates for a few seconds per image. Brief discomfort, no lasting pain. Don't wear deodorant or lotion (they can show on the image). Most insurance plans cover annual screening 100% for women 40+.
